Mahmoud Alhaj is a visual artist and teacher living and working in the Gaza Strip, Palestine. He holds a degree in Journalism and has been teaching visual arts at the  since 2017.

Alhaj has developed several projects using photography, digital art, and video, exhibiting his work in Palestine, Europe, and the United States. In 2022, his experimental short film The Right to See was presented at the 35th edition of the Les Instants Vidéo festival in Marseille.

Film – “Anatomy of Control” and “The Right to See”: The technology of violence through the eyes of a Gazan artist

In collaboration with the TEJA network, Casa Árabe screened two short films by Mahmoud Alhaj on Tuesday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. in Madrid. At the end of the screenings, the artist engaged in a conversation about his work with Karim Hauser, Cultural Programs Coordinator at Casa Árabe, and with the attending audience.

Workshop by Mahmoud Alhaj for the “Other Books, and That – IV” Reading Club

In this session titled “A Cauterized World: War, Resistance Movements, Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, resident artist of TEJA Mahmoud Alhaj proposed an activation of the graphic work Palestine by Joe Sacco, published in the 1990s. He established a dialogue between Sacco’s work and his own, suggesting practices of reflection and collective writing that allowed the group to connect with the Palestinian people’s struggle and think about what we can do from here. Organized by the Library and Documentation Center of Museo Reina Sofía.

A lunch at La Majada in Casa de Campo. The event included readings by poet Ahmad Almallah (Palestine) and live music, aimed at raising funds for Mahmoud Alhaj’s departure from Gaza.
