“Sweet or Bitter?” and “Broken Sun”. Mohamed Bakri and Abboud Abu Tair at La Casa Encendida
“Sweet or Bitter?”, by Mohamed Bakri, stems from a personal experience linked to constant returns to the village of Bi’ina, in northern occupied Palestine, and to the Al-Sa’baniyya mountain, which is in a continuous state of transformation and colonial urban intervention. Mohamed explores existence and disappearance within the time and space of a reality overtaken by colonial domination and accelerated digital language. Through slow analog photography, the artist documents intimate moments, reflecting an unmanipulated reality. The works move between presence and absence, positive and negative, thereby exploring the relationship between human beings and time.
“Broken Sun”, by Abboud Abu Tair, emerges within the context of the 2026 war between Iran, the United States, and Israel, where repeated phone alerts order the population to take shelter within minutes. In East Jerusalem, and across all Palestinian cities, the majority of Palestinian homes lack shelters or protected spaces; as a result, these notifications are associated more with a constant state of waiting and anxiety than with real protection. The images displayed are barely identifiable and disconnected from any normal sequence. Some scenes feel familiar yet remain suspended and unclear, thus presenting an ambiguity that was not initially intended.
