The talks, exhibitions, meals, concerts, and readings organized by TEJA and in collaboration with different spaces and institutions are a key element of the experience for the creators participating in the residencies. They also serve as spaces for dialogue, ensuring freedom of expression regarding the conflicts or emergency situations faced by the creators in residence or those affecting the territories they come from.
As part of their residencies in Madrid, artists Lara Salous and Motasem Siam presented their portfolios to the Research Center of Museo Reina Sofía.
Artist in residence, Motasem Siam, toured the spaces of the collectives that are part of Museo Situado (MNCARS) in Lavapiés: Solar de Dragones de Lavapiés, Esta es una Plaza, Asociación Valiente Bangla, Mbolo – Hola Vecinas, Red Interlavapies – Senda de Cuidados – Observatorio Jeanneth Beltrán.
In this session titled “A Cauterized World: War, Resistance Movements, Palestinian-Israeli Conflict, resident artist of TEJA Mahmoud Alhaj proposed an activation of the graphic work Palestine by Joe Sacco, published in the 1990s. He established a dialogue between Sacco’s work and his own, suggesting practices of reflection and collective writing that allowed the group to connect with the Palestinian people’s struggle and think about what we can do from here. In order to raise funds and ensure the sustainability of TEJA, several organizations within the Network launched a solidarity art sale featuring over 50 visual artists. The sale took place through TEJA’s Instagram from May 29 to June 5, 2022.

On May 27, the screening of Atlantis by Valentyn Vasyanovych took place, a prophetic film about the conflict in Ukraine at the Russian border. It imagines the future of a territory shattered by war, impossible to inhabit, and how the survivors struggle to find meaning in life and overcome the trauma of war.
